Burnaby’s Oil Refinery: Ready For The Big One?
The Chevron Oil Refinery tucked behind Capitol Hill in North Burnaby provides gas to most of the gas stations in the Lower Mainland.
A report leaked last week revealed that 8 of the 10 buildings at the North Burnaby Refinery would not survive a powerful Earthquake. The only problem is that the city of Burnaby doesn’t have legal authority to force Chevron to make the required seismic upgrades (they can only do this for new construction and the refinery was built in the early 1950s).
