For the long weekend, a group of us went up to Jones Lake near the Fraser Valley for some camping by the water. We had a sweet spot on the east side of Jones Lake with a nice beach for swimming, excellent 4×4 trails and even a fire-powered hot tub! I shot this video in the afternoon after we got up there.
If you want a killer view, then the Eagles Bluffs are the spot. It’s a 4 hour return hike from the Cypress Mountain day lodge. There are 10 beautiful lakes on the trail and as you can see in the video, the views of Vancouver and the Georgia Straight from the Eagle Bluffs are exceptional.
You can also hike in from Horseshoe Bay via Whyte Lake (a great spot to swim afterwards) and it takes about the same amount of time.
It was a nice day today so we drove up to Squamish and hiked the Stawamus Chief. Pretty fun hike all-around, with some stellar views from the summit. Here’s a short video I recorded on the summit:
We did a roadtrip to Tofino last weekend to catch the annual Ripcurl Stew Surf Competition. Here is a series of short videos I filmed of the Ripcurl Stew and some of my favourites sites in the Tofino area like Cox Bay, Chesterman’s Beach, Hot Springs Cove and Radar Hill.

My first video blog for the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival. In this segement, I put the new run tracking feature in the Whistler App to the test. The App tracks vertical drop, distance, maximum speed and average speed skied in a run or for the entire day. How many vertical feet from the top of Blackcomb to the Whistler Village? Find out.
Everyone has an idea of paradise in their head. Places in their imagination or real places like Bora Bora, Machu Pichu or Bali. Mine is the island of Koh Tao in Thailand.
Incredible timelapse footage from Torre Del Paine National Park in Chile. Also includes footage from Glacier National Park and Fitz Roy National Park in Argentina.
These are my favourite day hikes near the city of Vancouver, British Columbia. As usual, in no particular order. All of these hiking trails are within 1-2 hours driving distance from the city.
If you want directions and specifics for each hike, I recommend using Vancouver Trails.
1. Dog Mountain
A surreal view of Vancouver's natural harbour as the sun sets.
The Dog Mountain bluffs have the best-hike-to-view ratio in the Lower Mainland. I try to do this hike every few weeks since it is a quick 25 minutes drive from downtown and it only takes about 1 or 2 hours. Plus, it is an easy hike in the snow. The trailhead is by the Bear’s Paw at the far end of the Mount Seymour parking lot. (more…)
A few years ago I spent a year living in the town of Banff. During that time I had the opportunity to explore the backcountry of Banff National Park and the other Rocky Mountain national parks – skiing, hiking, camping and treking in the wilderness.
The natural wonders listed below are a collection of my favourite places in the Canadian Rockies (in no particular order). I was inspired to write this post by reading the 36 Natural Wonders of New Zealand.
The surreal blue waters of Morraine Lake and the backdrop of snow-capped peaks in the Valley of Ten Peaks is a sight to see. The ten mountain peaks in the background run along the Continental Divide, which marks the border of British Columbia and Alberta. (more…)
