A fun TV commercial my company filmed here on the BC Coast. There is lots of cliff jumping and swimming shots. It was filmed along the cliffs of Howe Sound between Vancouver and Squamish.
Extreme skiing legend Shane McConkey is world famous for his epic fusion of BASE jumping and skiing. He made over 700 ski BASE jumps in his career, launching off peaks near Whistler, the Canadian Rockies, the French Alps and all over the world.
He died doing what he loved best on March 26th, 2009 in the Dolomite Mountains of Italy. After performing a “routine” double back flip, he wasn’t able to release his skis and glide away in his wingsuit. By the time he was able to get them off, he’d been free-falling for 12 seconds and was too close to the ground for his parachute to do him any good. R.I.P. Shane McConkey.
Team Black Sheep flying in New York, over the Brooklyn and Verazano Bridge, around Downtown Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. They even buzzed the State of Liberty and go away with it.
The El Caminito del Ray (often shortened to El Camino del Ray) is a hike across the narrow El Chorro gorge along a walkway in disrepair. It is considered by many to be the world’s most dangerous hike (or at least the most dangerous that is accessible to adventure travelers).
A doozy of a hike to try if you’re ever in Spain. I almost shit myself watching this in a couple spots. The cameraman doesn’t even clip onto the guide wires, crazy!
If you want to add it to your bucket list, you can seek it out near the town of Álora in the district of Malaga, Spain.
Yosemite climbing legend Dean Potter and one of nominees for National Geographic’s 2009 Adventurers of the Year, combines BASE jumping, ropeless climbing and his wing suit to soar to new heights. Watch in this video as he leaps off Switzerland’s Eiger for the world’s longest BASE jump. Lasting nearly 3 minutes, he jumps and then flies with his wing suit above the Swiss farmland below.
